I agree with everything you said. The difference is that I like the number of options and the painterly approach. I get a real rush from taking a "bad" photo and making it into a good intriguing and printable image. Different strokes, as they say. And there is always a place for "old school."

I've read that Ansel Adams would sometimes spend days working with a single negative, dodging and burning in the darkroom to get just the effect he wanted. When we look at that photograph now, we might be tempted to think we're seeing exactly what we would have seen had we been standing next to him when he took it. But that wouldn't be true.

Bottom line is that you are a photographer not just to take and share photographic images, but for the total holistic experience of capturing light. Digital photography begins with the capturing of light, but offers the manipulating of pixels as well. It can be overwhelming if you consider all the choices and the sheer power of ones and zeros. But you can also use the digital camera to do exactly what you've been doing with film: waiting with nature till the light is just right and then taking the shot.

Armond, I came out of the Leica rangefinder street perspective, Winogrand, Frank, Klien- and transitioned to the small digital format with far less difference as you will encounter. The only time i use a tripod is for studio work, and always find it oppressive (work). I have some of the formalists like Atget, Jackson, Curtis, but realize it is a different temperament than what i have.
Anyway, be reactive, DO NOT PREVISUALIZE, enjoy discovering what the camera sees. The art will be the edit so make lottsa images. Think what is different of what a camera sees than what you see, what a camera does that a painting doesn't. and camera shake, tilted horizon, etc., use it! it is the nature of the camera.

like your last lake image with the sign.

Burnell's comment sheds light on a point of confusion. The date refers to the writing of the post; not the event date. But before the day is over I will write about the show at the Smile gallery. and the dinner in the Thai restaurant.

I can only speak from my own experience, but the half-dozen or so times I have driven on Pine or Spruce Streets since the creation of the bike lanes the traffic has moved remarkably well - so much better than before the bike lanes.

excellent! well said. it's so true the green house gasses that are created because of all the idling traffic on pine & spruce counter acts any good that's coming of the bike lanes.

honestly, you have to wonder what nimrod agreed to this. it really just adds to my total annoyance of bike riders in the city, and that's not good.

I appreciate thee responses. Hear is more info maybe hear-say or not but be careful: The new news I have heard is that the PPA is now chalking tires. This means that you can't feed the meters for more than two hours. So if you are having dinner in a nice restaurant and your time is up before your meal is finished you have to move and find another parking space. You can no longer buy more time; and you can't park on the same side of the street in the same numbered block.IN CENTER CITY HOW LONG DO YOU THINK THAT WILL TAKE?? Your food will be cold and your friends will have reported you as missing!!
