mimi and AliceIf you ask any tour guide where to get good food in the historic area of Philadelphia most of them will tell you Philly’s Gourmet Cafe, better known as Mimi’s. Mimi is the ever joyous hostess that brings her Asian charm to everyone she greets.

Located at the very front of the 5th street entrance of the Bourse building between Chestnut and Market, Mimi’s offers a wide variety of well-prepared, fresh, cold and hot pay by the lb. buffets and salad bar.

It includes selections of American, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, and Mediterranean dishes, as well as fresh and prepared fruits and vegetables that are delicious. I had samples of the Chinese broccoli, BB pork and chicken, roasted chicken, prepared broccoli, and a variety of other prepared fruit and vegetable dishes and every single sample was fresh, crisp and succulent. Other dishes available include pasta Italian style, beef stew, general chow’s chicken as well as succotash, fried plantain, spanakopita (spinach pie) and a selection of gluten free sandwiches using only Boar Head products. And of course, what selection would be complete without the Philly cheese steak. The steak is lean and well prepared. Mimi proudly guarantees that everything is MSG and meat tenderizer free.

Her daily specials include a student group discounts: a cheese steak fries and soda @ $7.99

So when you are visiting the historic area of Philadelphia and are ready for a casual meal, go to Mimi’s.  With such a wide selection of deliciously prepared food, at a reasonable price, you can’t do better.
